Main Falls

Main Falls is located in the center of Courtallam which is also pronounced as “Courtallam” and it is the biggest falls about 60 meters high. It is one of the natural and spectacular waterfalls in the world. It is advised to drink some quantity of this water while taking bath as it contains medical properties. As soon as, one takes bath here, the person feels rejuvenated; both his mind and body will be fresh. This herbal water can cure various digestive problems and urinary problems, if the patient takes bath continuously for 6 months. Thirukootachalanathar temple, dedicated to Sri Tirukutrala Nathar (Lord Shiva) and Kuzhalvaimozhi Amman (Goddess) is located very close to main falls at walkable distance.

Five Falls Courtallam

Five falls is around 8km away from Green Garden resort and 4 km away from the main falls and is nestled deep in the western ghat mountain. These falls split into five sections before cascading vertically at Aravankadu Pass. The waterfall is situated 5 Kms away from the bus stand in the western side of the hills. There is an Aiyappan, Ayyanar, Vinayaka temple and Lord Murugan temple in front of these falls. The water emerges as five branches and flows as a single stream, which looks like Aadisesha (five headed serpent). Three of the five falls are open for men, whereas women can have access of two falls.

Old Courtallam Falls

The Old falls is the most preferred water fall by all age group of tourists. It is at distance of 8 km from Main Falls Coutralam . The way to the falls is very beautiful with forested mountains and green blossoming rice fields to the right and coconut trees, Mango trees to the left. Two separate children pool is in front of the water falls so the falls is favourite for children

Tiger Falls Courtallam

Tiger Falls is located at about 2 Kms away from Courtallam bus stand. This waterfall is very small that is suitable for the kids and the old people to enjoy. It is situated between the Main Falls and Old Courtallam.

Small Falls ( Chitraruvi)

Chitraruvi is located adjacent to the Main Falls. The size of the falls is comparatively small and the people who are scared of Peraruvi (Main Falls) can literally enjoy Chitraruvi. Separate sections are present both for men and women to take bathe. Chitraruvi or the Small Falls lead to other waterfalls such as Shenbaga Devi Falls and Thenaruvi. Shenbaga Devi cascade is located above Chitraruvi and an adventurous trek uphill, through the Chitraruvi forest, leads to the falls. The stream of water is believed to have rich herbal and therapeutic properties.

Honey falls (Thenaruvi)

This falls is for the adventure and extreme sports lovers. Located at a distance of approximately 3 km from the Main falls, it is the first cascade in Courtallam. Hence the waters here are considered the most pure. The falls get their name from the several honey combs that lie on all around the hillocks that form these falls. Reaching Thenaruvi is truly an adventure by itself. It is at the end of a trail that winds through steep mountain paths and dense forests. Once you reach, you are treated to a breathtaking sight of the horseshoe shaped waterfall that falls from three sides into a pool. Before you can enjoy a shower, you have to swim across a small but deep pond. Entry to Thenaruvi is restricted during most of the year due to the strong undercurrents and flash floods in this area.

Honey Falls or Thenaruvi is further 1 km from Shenbagadevi Falls and 4 km from the Main falls.

Shenbagadevi Falls

You can reach these waterfalls only by trekking through the dense Chitraruvi forest. It is located at a distance of 2.5 kms and at a height of 40 feet above Chitraruvi. The falls are surrounded by pristine Champak trees that bear the fragrant Shenbaga flowers which are offered in prayer to the Shenbaga Devi Amman in the temple here. Hence this falls is known as Shenbaga Devi after the Goddess. During the auspicious day of Chitra Pournami (சித்ரா பவுர்ணமி) (the full moon day that occurs in the Tamil month of Chithirai) and on other full moon days a huge number of devotees visit this temple to seek the blessings of the Amman. You can find vendors selling garlands of Shenbaga flowers en-route to the temple. Entry to this waterfall is restricted during heavy rains owing to flash floods in the waters.
